Pavilion Improvement Project

South and Middle Parking Lots


The South and Middle Parking Lots will be under construction from May 1st until June 1st. The details of the project follow on the timeline.

Week of April 30th – May 4th:
Strip and stockpile dirt from islands and terrace wall area
Existing asphalt removal and disposal
Existing curb and sidewalk removal and disposal
Disassemble existing inner Terrace wall and brick pavers.
Removal and dispose of existing outer Terrace wall.
Layout of parking lot islands with grades
 
Week of May 7th – May 11th:
Lot grading work.
Relocate fire hydrant
Proof roll of new full depth pavement area.
Rebuild inner Terrace wall and brick pavers
Install new outer Terrace wall
 
Week of May 14th – May 18th:
Continue installation of new outer Terrace wall
Installation of parking lot curbs and islands
Backfill curbs and Terrace walls
 
Week of May 21st – May 25th:
Stone base installation and grading
Sidewalk installation
New Terrace fence installation
 
Week of May 28th – June 1st:
Mill existing pavement
Install Petromat over existing pavement
Asphalt installation
Striping and sign installation
Removal of construction fence

 

Pavilion Improvement Project


The Jack A. Claes Pavilion opened its doors in 1994 and has become a vital part of the Elk Grove Village Community. Entering into its 17th year the building site and some of its amenities are in need of renovation. Over the past few years there has been much formal research along with resident and staff input into the future of the facility. Starting in the summer of 2011 we will see the parking lot reconstruction and the HVAC system replacement. The time has come to replace and modernize the aquatic center .The indoor and outdoor lap pools are over 40 years old and have served us well. The building improvements and the entire aquatic renovation will be phased in starting as early as 2014. The Elk Grove Park District prides itself on customer service and fiscal responsibility. We guarantee the least amount of impact to our customers throughout the construction process. collapsed menuWhy did the Park District conduct a Pavilion Study?

The Pavilion is beginning its 17th year and with all facilities, it is always prudent to look at facilities from a visionary viewpoint.  It is also important to look at the way the building is being used to see if the facility meets the needs of its users.  The original lap pool at the Pavilion is 40 years old and has exceeded its life expectancy.

collapsed menu What are the parts of the Pavilion Study process?

The Park District hired an architectural firm to conduct a Pavilion Site and Facility Study.  This consisted of developing a staff leadership team; researching data information and past studies such as a 2004 Pavilion Fitness Center Operational Review, a 2005 Aquatic Audit, and a 2010 SEDAC Energy Evaluation; conducting staff facility tours, conducting a Pavilion Advisory facility tour, and developing concepts and recommendations for the Pavilion.

collapsed menu How much does this cost the taxpayer?

The Pavilion project will NOT increase resident taxes.  The project will be funded through the Corporate Fund and will be financed, as debt is retired and/or paid with money on hand.  We will replace old debt with new debt with keeping the payment levels the same.  Construction projects within this study could be phased and paid through capital funding (levy bonds).

collapsed menu Is there a timeline for the Pavilion Study?

The project is projected to take 3 or 4 phases to complete.  The first phase will begin in 2012 with the parking lot while the last phase is projected to begin in 2014 or 2015.

collapsed menu What will be the impact on current programs and services while any construction or changes occur?

Our goal is to have minimal interruptions to our programs and services during this project.  Programs or services may be moved to different areas of the building while under construction.

Aquatics, both indoor and outdoor

Provide more usage space and accommodate the growing number of customers using the pool areas.
